SQEY

SQEY, or Squary Eyes is the name behind a small collective. It started during a studio visit. A chance encounter in the sofuvi underground Tokyo art scene and it developed as a project larger than life from there.

To this day we never made one single sofuvi yet. And there is a reason for it.
From the beginning, our focus has been on the stories behind the characters. On what it means to give form to vinyl beyond the object itself.

Ours became literally a quest between two dimensions. What we understood we were triggered by was dreaming, writing and giving shape to the stories of a growing universe, and projecting it into this world through characters who fight its widespread darkness—or embody it. As we actively became familiar with this dynamic, we accepted an evolution in styles and languages that span from kawaii to low brow, from surrealism to abstraction.

From the very beginning mutual respect, a state of shared wonder for each other’s work and a common fixation to support each other to create things never seen before have been SQEY‘s guiding lines.

The idea of Squary Eyes is a collection of fables, stories and very odd characters all living in a multifaceted City that somehow speaks about us and our society.

SQEY‘s fables and characters speak of our contemporaneity in a way that kids and adults can find and share different positive interpretations and meanings while actively visiting and learnig about Squary Eyes City.

Thank You,
the Squary Eyes
